On October 2, 2018, we held in cooperation with our partner the Ghetto Fighters’ House a conference on the significance of archives and their relevance in the digital age.

Already at the beginning, the speakers emphasized the important role of archives as the basis of today´s knowledge and action. The attendants had the opportunity to watch the first screening in Israel of Roberta Grossman’s latest film “Who Will Write Our History?” The film tells the story of “Oyneg Shabbes”, the clandestine Jewish archive in Warsaw ghetto, established by Emanuel Ringelblum. The American filmmaker attended the screening herself to answer the numerous questions of the audience. She was highly praised for her commitment to bringing the subject to the wider public.

Dr. Moshe Shner (Oranim College) and Dr. Yaacov Lozowick (former Chief Archivist, Israel State Archives) enriched the conference in their talks about the meaning of history and historiography in the modern Jewish consciousness and about ethical and political aspects of the role of archives in the digital age.
