Together with the Histadrut, the Israeli trade union federation, FES-Israel welcomed a delegation of the DGB-Youth of North Rhine-Westphalia in Israel under the slogan “Regional dynamics and their impact on Israel and its trade unions”. Between May 2nd and May 11th the young trade unionists participated in a series of discussions and meetings with trade unionists and civil society actors in Israel.

The delegation met members of workers councils for example from the water supply company Mekorot and the youth organization of the Histadrut. The participants had also the chance to get an insight into the Israeli labor market and the Israeli labor union.

For a closer view on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and possibilities for a peaceful conflict resolution, the group visited Jerusalem with Ron Shatzberg. The visit of the delegation coincided with the main Israeli remembrance days, and provided the German unionists with an opportunity to get to know the Israeli culture of remembrance. Especially the visit to the Holocaust Museum  – Yad Vashem – and the participation on commemorative events on Yom HaShoah, the Holocaust Memorial Day, were an emotional highlight of their visit.
