On Monday, February 25, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in cooperation with the Histadrut invited to the seminar “Trade Unions in Transformation – Unions, Yes we can!”. In addition to full-time employees of the union, two external experts also spoke to a well-attended audience in the Histadrut headquarters: On the one hand, Michael Fichter, former professor at Global Labor University Berlin and visiting professor at Hebrew University, and on the other hand, Erkan Ersoy, the “European Director of Organizing” at Uni Global Union.

The international audience, consisting of trade unionists and NGO representatives, used three panels to discuss the changes in trade unions in Israel and the world, the structure of trade unions and the shift away from the industrial to service labor market. Both experts as well as among others, Micky Drill (Project Manager FES), Avital Shapira-Shabirov (Director International Department, Histadrut), and Shay Biran (Director-General of Economic Division, Histadrut), shared their experience with the audience.

The participants appreciated the event and in particular, the opportunity to learn from each other in an international exchange and to share experiences in the struggle for a more solidarity labor market. The FES thanks very competent experts and the participants for exciting and interesting discussions in the seminar.
