On May 1st – Labour Day – the Social Economic Academy (SEA), in cooperation with FES Israel, organized a conference in which social and economic changes in Israel’s society were discussed from a progressive and social democratic perspective.
Rami Hod, Executive Director of SEA, opened the conference with a motivating speech referring to the positive societal developments since the social protests in 2011. Subsequently, MK Shelly Yachimovich asked the participants to maintain this positive spirit and to continue working for social progress.
The main forum critically discussed the question whether the socio-economic discourse in Israel has changed in recent years and how far these changes influenced economic policies and the political behavior.
At the end of the event, the participants had the chance to hold discussions in small round tables. For instance, the topic of one round table was the new generation of social protests and how this generation could push for social-economic changes in Israel.
