On the 5th of May, a very special Politikva course was opened for young social-democratic leaders. The course is targeted towards Russian speaking Israelis who immigrated as children to Israel or who were born in Israel but grew up in families with migration backgrounds. This group of immigrants faces quite
specific problems in Israel like old-age poverty due to missing pension contributions of their parents’ generation or also civil justice issues concerning Non-Jewish Israelis. One characteristic of this group is that its majority supports Israel’s politically right-wing parties. This makes the course particularly important as it analyses the challenges of the Israeli society from a social-democratic perspective. The course is taught in Hebrew and twenty politically interested young people and activists participate in it. Besides the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation Israel, the Berl Katznelson Foundation as well as the Yigal Alon Center support the funding and are involved in shaping the thematic orientation of the course.
