On January 14, 2018, this year’s preliminary meeting and starting event of Givat Haviva’s ‘Regional Mediation, Sulcha and Dialogue Based Leadership Training’ took place. The training is conducted in cooperation with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Israel and is facilitated by Dr. Ran Kuttner. The course aims to train awareness and teach approaches for dealing with possible conflicts within Arab and Jewish communities. In the context of the mediation training the participants learn different methods and techniques on how to navigate conflicts and their resolution – be it on a personal or communal level or within the mesh of relations of neighboring Jewish and Arab communities. During the meetings, held on the Givat Haviva campus, theoretical lessons will be combined with practical training, such as role playing. One special feature of this training is the education in Sulcha, a traditional Arab method for conflict solution.
This year, 40 alumni of the mediation course will receive additional training, and 24 new participants will be provided with the necessary education for successful mediation.
