The cooperation of the Strochlitz Institute for Holocaust Studies at Haifa University, the Ghetto Fighters House Museum and Massuah Institute for Holocaust Studies with FES Israel was established in the aim of fostering an Israeli-German academic dialogue and providing a platform for new research in Holocaust research.

The Seminar began with a guided tour through the Ghetto Fighters House Museum in Akko. Part of the tour was the visit of different exhibition rooms of the museum for example the so called “Treblinka Hall”. Focus of the tour was next to general information about the museum the way how the different exhibition halls itself were designed. There was for example a model of the concentration camp Treblinka shown in the focus of the room as well as eyewitness testimonies, photos and original artifacts from former prisoners.

In the focus of the seminar were two lectures which were followed by a discussion. The first presentation was held by Ute Frevert, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Her talk was called “Fascination and Seduction: the emotional politics of National Socialism”.

The following presentation was held by Avner Ben-Amos with the title „Education through the Senses: Memorial Day and Holocaust Day Ceremonies in Israeli Schools“. Avner Ben-Amos is a lecturer at the School of Education at Tel Aviv University.
