On April 28th the Social Economic Academy (SEA), in cooperation with FES Israel and the Berl Katznelson Foundation, organized a conference in which social and economic changes in Israel’s society were discussed from a progressive and social democratic perspective.

For the second time, this major socio-political event took place, this year at Tel Aviv University, in which 30 speakers and 650 guests participated. Thematically, the focus lay on those big socio-political and economic questions which are important to all of us: What means social sensibility? Who stands up for social justice – those who demand price cuts or those who protect the industry and their employees? – those who cut taxes or those who extend social security benefits?

And finally – in the struggle for social justice, are the differences between right and left to be emphasized or do we need to find commonalities in the political centre? With the input of representatives from politics, labor unions, civil society and the media, those topics where discussed throughout kick-off presentations and working groups. Among others, the labor party’s chairman MK Itzhak (Buji) Herzog, former minister and former chairman of the Histadrut MK Amir Peretz, as well as the leader of the Meretz fraction in the Knesset MK Ilan Galon also participated in the discussions.
