For many years now, the Israeli-German teacher trade unions’ seminar is taking place in cooperation with the GEW – Education and Science Workers’ Union from Germany and the Israeli trade union for teachers Histadrut Hamorim. The Friedrich-Ebert Stiftung is involved in the conceptional planning of this workshop. Within this framework, the seminar participants gathered together for 5 days in order to discuss several aspects such as coming to terms with the Holocaust and its integration into the classroom, bearing in mind the challenges such as todays’ heterogeneous and multicultural student body and the fact that it becomes more and more difficult for German as well as Israeli students to be able to emphasize with the past and personally meet Holocaust survivors.
During this seminar varied perspectives were illustrated such as how to educate students to develop critical thinking and how to draw connections to discrimination and racism.
