How can the voice of the youth be strengthened in politics? How can the youth be empowered? These questions were discussed on June 18, 2018 at the symposium “Social Inclusion of Young Adults – The Israeli and European Experiences, Policies and Strategies”, organized in cooperation with the Israeli Association for the Study of European Integration (IASEI) and the European Forum which took place at the The Federmann School of Public Policy and Government at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Dr. Howard Williamson, Professor of European Youth Policy gave a detailed overview about the EU youth policy, the youth policies in different countries and the social inclusion agenda. He emphasized the particular importance of reaching the marginal groups. Shiran Barzilai Glotter, CEO advisor, Ministry for Social Equality addressed the policy directions regarding young adults in Israel and the new youth authority, which was founded in summer 2017. Generally the dilemmas young adults are facing, occur at a later age in Israel due to army service. Therefore the definition of young adults is up to age 35.

Dr. Roby Nathanson, CEO, Macro Center elaborated on the policy towards young adults in Israel which is uncoordinated so far, but might be improved through the new founded youth authority. He and the following speaker Prof. Claude Berrebi from the school of Public Policy and Government at the Hebrew University talked about the topics which are relevant for young adults in Israel – especially housing and general living costs.
