The Celluloid Ceiling – A Gender-Based Analysis of The Israeli Film Industry
This pioneering report examines for the first time the Israeli film industry from a gender perspective. By doing so, the report joins numerous international research projects dealing with gender disparities in budgets and gender-based partition of work in the film production business – enabling for the first time a comparison between the film industry in Israel and around the world.
The report depicts the chronology of a cinema career development: starting with the support for student films and up to the recognition that the films receive – the Ophir Awards and the prizes of the Israeli Documentary Filmmakers Forum.
Furthermore, the report examines the situation of female cinema creatives coming from minority groups in society and lists recommendations for the enhancement of women in the film industry.
